BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok’s Drainage Department has successfully completed a trial run of pre-fabricated flood barriers, known as Hydro Fences, at Tha Ratchaworadit pier, according to a statement released on Aug 30.

The trial, initiated by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, saw the deployment of 50 Hydro Fences, donated by Summit Plus Innovation.

These barriers were installed at a highly trafficked area of the pier, where the traditional method of using sandbags to control water levels during high tide had proven to be labor-intensive and time-consuming.

The new Hydro Fences have demonstrated a significant improvement in terms of installation time and efficiency, reducing the need for large quantities of sandbags.

If the trial proves successful, the Drainage Department plans to expand the use of Hydro Fences to other piers along the Chao Phraya River.

This innovative solution represents Bangkok’s ongoing efforts to develop more effective flood prevention measures. (TNA)
