BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued heavy rainfall across all regions of Thailand, with particular attention to the northern and northeastern regions, which are expected to face heavy rain and strong winds. Residents in mountainous areas, near waterways, and low-lying areas should be on alert for potential flash floods and landslides.

The current weather conditions are being driven by a strong southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. As a result, waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach heights of 2-3 meters, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves higher than 3 meters. Meanwhile, waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand will reach 1-2 meters. The Meteorological Department has advised sailors to exercise caution and recommended that small boats remain ashore until September 8.

Additionally, Typhoon “Yagi,” currently located over the Gulf of Tonkin, is expected to make landfall in northern Vietnam on September 7. The storm will gradually weaken into a tropical storm and then a depression. This weather pattern is expected to bring very heavy rainfall and strong winds to northern and northeastern Thailand from September 7-8. (TNA)
