BANGKOK, Thailand -Bangkok Deputy Governor Jakkapan, alongside Deputy Permanent Secretary Suphakrit, the Bang Kholaem District Director, and the Municipal Affairs Department, visited Klong Suan Luang Market near Soi Charoen Krung 101-103 and the area behind Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital to oversee the new market stall regulations on September 7.
Deputy Governor Jakkapan explained that the new market stall plan aligns with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s 2024 hawker and vendor policy. Areas identified for changes include some that will be restructured or merged, while others will have restrictions eased. These actions are in response to complaints through the Traffy Fondue system about unregulated stalls and traffic issues caused by vehicles parked along the roads.
At the Klong Suan Luang Market, there are currently 69 vendors selling ready-to-eat food, vegetables, and seasonal fruits. The district authorities have demarcated stall boundaries and implemented regulations to ensure compliance, including preventing vendors from encroaching on public sidewalks. Meanwhile, 16 vendors behind Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital have been relocated to the Hawker Center.
The goal of these new measures is to enhance cleanliness, order, and safety in these market areas while ensuring that both vendors and the public benefit from a more organized environment. Vendors are required to clean their areas after business hours and on Mondays, when the markets are closed. A review committee will assess compliance, and those who meet the criteria can continue operating. Non-compliant vendors may be relocated to designated areas or the Hawker Center.
