Governor Chadchart visited the Wat Duang Khae community in Pathumwan to address complaints from residents regarding the condition of the area under the expressway at Charu Mueang Road.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, along with Dr. Methawi Tharndamrong, Bangkok Council Member for Pathumwan District, and local officials, visited the Wat Duang Khae community in Pathumwan to address complaints from residents regarding the condition of the area under the expressway at Charu Mueang Road, September 7.

Governor Chadchart noted that the residents had raised concerns about the cleanliness and disorganization in the area. The sidewalks under the expressway, which are under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), have been encroached upon by various businesses, including taxi and tuk-tuk depots, transport operations, and street vendors. This has resulted in significant clutter and dirtiness.

The main issues identified are:

Street Vendors: A total of 39 unregistered vendors were found encroaching on both sides of the sidewalk, in addition to 40 vendors permitted to operate in front of Wat Duang Khae. Authorities need to check if these vendors are complying with regulations.

Parking Problems: Taxis, tuk-tuks, and large trucks frequently park on sidewalks and roadsides, causing traffic congestion. The area serves as a logistics hub, further contributing to double parking and clutter.

The governor emphasized that resolving these issues will require a gradual approach. Discussions with the Expressway Authority of Thailand will be necessary, especially regarding the use of space under the expressway. Street vendors will be informed to avoid encroaching on the sidewalks, and improvements to the sidewalks will be made, with Pathumwan District Office instructed to take action.
