MANILA – The Unveiling and Turnover of Two Commemorative Artworks by Thai and Filipino Artists to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between Thailand and the Philippines
On September 9, 2024, H.E. Mr. Tull Trisorat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Philippines and Mr. Panidone Pachimsawat, Deputy Director-General, Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, together with ASEAN Ambassadors to the Philippines, senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Los Baños and university officials , witnessed the unveiling of commemorative paintings to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Philippines at Dusit Thani Makati Manila. The artworks were co-created by renowned Thai and Filipino contemporary artists: Mr. Thaweesak Srithongdee (Lolay), along with his family, and Mr. Kris Abrigo, under the theme “Moving Forward to a New Era of Closer Friendship and Common Prosperity.”
The artworks illustrate the ties of warm friendship between the two peoples, which constitute a part of Thai – Filipino relations throughout the past 75 years. On this occasion, the Royal Thai Embassy, Manila gave the two paintings to Professor Jose V. Camacho Jr., Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Los Baños, where the artworks will be displayed at the University’s International Student Center for public viewing. It must be noted that the University is a longstanding esteemed academic institution, where many Thai students have received their education.
This activity is a part of the “Street Arts through the Lens of Thai and ASEAN Artists” project, initiated by the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to raise public awareness of cooperation under the ASEAN framework, strengthen bilateral relations between Thailand and ASEAN member countries and foster people-to-people connection within the region.
