BANGKOK, Thailand – Sarawut Kaewtathip, Director-General of the Department of Energy Business, reported on September 13 that the average daily fuel consumption for January–July 2024 was 156.50 million liters, an increase of 0.2% compared to the same period last year. However, gasoline consumption decreased by 1.4%, driven by higher retail prices, the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) usage, and the development of urban mass transit and dual-track railways.
Diesel consumption at service stations rose by 3.3%, fueled by economic recovery, particularly in tourism and services, as well as industrial growth. The average daily consumption of commercial aviation fuel (Jet A1) increased by 16.7%, largely due to government tourism promotion measures. In contrast, fuel oil and natural gas (NGV) usage dropped by 19.1% and 17.1%, respectively.
Detailed fuel consumption for January–July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023:
-Gasoline group averaged 31.55 million liters/day, with a decrease in all types except for Gasohol 91, which saw an increase to 7.64 million liters/day due to lower prices compared to Gasohol 95.
-Diesel averaged 69.69 million liters/day, with regular diesel rising to 67.90 million liters/day, while B20 diesel declined to 0.15 million liters/day.
-Jet A1 fuel averaged 15.65 million liters/day, up 16.7%, driven by increased tourism activity.
-LPG usage averaged 18.69 million kg/day, with growth in petrochemicals and household sectors but a decline in industrial use.
Fuel imports averaged 1,037,105 barrels/day, down 2.8%, while fuel exports rose by 5.9%, totaling 169,133 barrels/day, valued at 17.5 billion baht per month. (TNA)
