NARATHIWAT, 17 May 2015 – The Minister of Tourism and Sports has joined the Kolok Thailand-Malaysia cycling event, held in celebration for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday and to tighten the relations between Thailand and Malaysia.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul presided over the opening ceremony of the Kolok Thailand-Malaysia cycling event. The event is held in celebration for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday. After the opening ceremony, the minister then joined the cycling group around the Sungai Kolok City Municipality, headed to the Thailand-Malaysia border crossing and then onwards to Kelantan, Malaysia.
The MOTS Minister has said that she is confident about the security protection in the area, and is positive that the southern border provinces of Thailand are actually lively places with impressive tradition of the local people, rich with diversity.
She has said that being in this area has granted her the feeling of unison in the local people, while pushing forward the tourism scene in the Sungai Kolok City border area, where the MOTS will greatly support the people’s benefits.
The Kolok Thailand-Malaysia cycling competition to win the royal trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is being held in celebration of HRH’s 60th birthday, to promote the cycling path for tourism, encourage health tourism and the awareness of exercise for health, as well as tightening the relations between Thailand and Malaysia.
The competition has been categorised into 4 categories including the 5 kilometre path, the VIP 22 kilometres path, and the Mountain Bike and Road Bike categories (65 kilometres each). Winners will be granted the royal trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
The competition has already confirmed 1,000 competitors from Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. The net income from this event will be presented to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for contribution to royal charity funds at Her Royal Highness’ discretion.
