The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) has forecast increased rainfall across several regions of Thailand from September 15-24. Heavy rain is expected in the northeastern, eastern, and southern Andaman coastal areas, while the northern region is predicted to see a gradual reduction in rain. Between September 15-17, the monsoon trough will intensify and shift towards the eastern part of the northern region, as well as the northeastern and central areas, resulting in heavier rains.
During this time, Bangkok and its surrounding regions are advised to prepare for potential flooding, especially with high tides likely to exacerbate water drainage issues. From September 18-22, the monsoon trough is forecast to move lower, covering the central, eastern, and upper southern regions, bringing continued heavy rainfall, particularly along the southern Andaman coast.
Between September 23-24, the monsoon trough is expected to swing back north, bringing more rainfall to the northern and northeastern regions. Although no major storm systems are anticipated to directly impact Thailand, a low-pressure system could develop over the South China Sea, influencing weather patterns.
