RATCHABURI, Thailand – Authorities in Damnoen Saduak District, Ratchaburi Province, have intensified their efforts to address speeding and noisy boats in Khlong Damnoen Saduak following complaints from local residents in early July.
Officials from the Damnoen Saduak District Office, the Regional Marine Office, the Tourist Police, and environmental organizations are working together to tackle issues related to noise, pollution, and waves that are affecting the community.
A task force has been established to monitor water traffic and enforce regulations on passenger boats, port operations, and public disturbances. Violators of noise and pollution standards will face fines of up to 2,000 baht, with repeat offenders risking a six-month suspension of their licenses.
Local vendors at the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market have been instructed to display prices for their products and services clearly, and to comply with the Alcohol Control Act. Authorities are also considering the installation of speed-reducing buoys in the canal to improve safety and discourage speeding.
To further reduce pollution, officials are exploring the use of the Energy Fund to help transition smaller boats to electric power. The initiative aims to lower engine noise and minimize the environmental impact in the area, while also improving the venues for the well-being of local residents and tourists. (NNT)
