PSC Golf from the Ferdinand Golf Society

Monday, May 4, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Monday’s venue was the beautiful location set in the foothills of the rain forest, Khao Kheo Golf Club.  Our intrepid golfers set off on a gruelling round and happily the rain held off for the duration.

Ian (oil guru) Pickles was the winner with a creditable 33 points, six ahead of Ed Wycoff who occupied the runner-up spot.  The remainder of the scores will be withheld to save the embarrassment of the remainder of the field.

Wednesday, May 6, Plutaluang – Stableford

Wednesday’s venue was the rolling hills and nature of the Navy course.  This was a special event as it was the inaugural ladies day with the Ferdinand group.  This will be held monthly and we were delighted to see 8 lovely ladies enter the field today.  It was noticed they brought colour and elegance to the proceedings, so much so that some of the male players became distracted and were put off their game. No excuse boys!

Nick Shaw topped the men’s division with 37 points while Freddy Starbeck came in second on 34.  Jim Proctor tidied up the flight in third place with 32 points.

Yui Beitry was the best of the ladies and posted the day’s top score of 38 points.  She was followed up the podium steps by Duang (34pts) and Chop on 32.

Friday, May 8, The Emerald – Stableford

Friday’s event was held at the challenging Emerald course.  The highlight of the day was provided by Freddy Starbeck who insisted on teeing up his ball on one side of the hole yardage plaque and placing his feet on the other.  This was going fine until the 10th hole where poor old Freddy hit the ball and the metal plaque at the same time (the plaque travelling nearly as far as the ball!)

Ian Pickles scored an excellent 41 points to take the win ahead of Colin Davis in second on 31 and Thierry Petrement placed third with 32.

Sunday, May 10, Green Valley – Stableford

Sunday was supposed to be our first medal event but due to the low season and turn-out we played stableford.  A tough battle ensued, with Ian Pickles launching into several beers by the 5th hole and Phil Davis not far behind with 12 cigarettes by the 7th.  Keeping pace was Nick Shaw with 6 beers by the eighth hole but Colin Davis was struggling with the intensity of his fellow competitors and could only manage 15 swear words by the 9th.

Ian Pickles once again vanquished the field, this time with 35 points and the aforementioned Nick Shaw took second on 33.

Note:  The Ferdinand’s Golf Society invites one and all to join them for a game of golf.  Pop into the bar on Soi Buakhao to sign up or call Colin Davis (golf manager) on 089 826 0764.
