NEW YORK – Foreign Affairs Minister Maris Sangiampongsa has reaffirmed Thailand’s focus on the sufficiency economy philosophy and the fight against transnational crime as key strategies for sustainable development during the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York. The summit, which adopted the Pact for the Future as its outcome, seeks to tackle global challenges and accelerate progress towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

In his address on “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” Maris called for stronger global cooperation to address pressing issues. He made clear Thailand’s commitment to sustainable development through the sufficiency economy, efforts to combat illicit drugs and cybercrime, and the need for reforms in the UN, particularly the Security Council, to better reflect the interests of developing nations. Maris also stressed the need to empower youth to help shape the future.

Thailand has played an active role in shaping the Pact for the Future, ensuring it delivers meaningful results for the global community. Earlier this year, the Thai government organized a series of events to raise public awareness of the summit’s goals.

The Summit of the Future reinforced the significance of multilateralism, with the UN at its core, and focused on strengthening the organization’s capacity to meet present and future challenges. It also discussed the need for inclusive participation to ensure the UN remains responsive to the needs of all member states. (NNT)
