BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall in parts of northern, eastern, and southern Thailand. Bangkok and its surrounding provinces are expected to experience thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with some locations seeing particularly heavy downpours. Residents in these regions are urged to exercise caution due to potential dangers such as flash floods and overflowing water in low-lying areas, particularly near slopes and water channels.
According to the department’s 24-hour forecast, the southwest monsoon continues to cover the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The convergence of the southwest and eastern winds in the Gulf of Thailand, the lower southern region, and the eastern parts of the country is contributing to the heavy rains in certain areas.
For maritime conditions, seas in the Andaman region, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand will experience moderate winds. Waves in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach 1 meter in height, rising to over 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in these regions are advised to proceed with caution, especially avoiding areas with thunderstorms.
In Bangkok and surrounding areas, thunderstorms will affect 60% of the area, with heavy rain expected in some locations. Temperatures will range from 25-26°C at the lowest to 33-34°C at the highest. (TNA)
