SRIRACHA, Thailand A severe storm with heavy rain and strong winds struck the areas of Sriracha and Laem Chabang in Chonburi Province on September 27 at 4:00 PM. The storm caused several empty shipping containers, stacked three-high at a private yard in Village 8, Thung Sukhla Subdistrict, Sriracha, to topple onto a power line. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the incident resulted in traffic disruptions as the fallen power poles obstructed the road.

The Provincial Electricity Authority of Laem Chabang responded quickly, cutting off the electricity supply to safely remove the containers and repair the damaged power poles. This area is a critical hub for distributing power to surrounding communities.

According to Chaitanapat Apivatwichayanthon, a 38-year-old witness, he was driving from the Nong Kham toll plaza when the storm hit. Strong winds caused the stacked containers to fall onto the high-voltage power line as he passed the container yard on his way to Laem Chabang Port. He immediately alerted the Laem Chabang electricity authority to cut the power. They are now working to remove the containers and restore the power infrastructure to normal.

In addition to the fallen containers, the heavy rainfall caused flooding in several parts of Sriracha, making it difficult for residents to commute. Local authorities are working to drain the floodwaters and restore normal traffic flow by diverting excess water to the sea.
