TRAT, Thailand – Visitors are invited to take a boat ride to witness the breathtaking sight of millions of colorful jellyfish floating off the coast of Ban Klong Son in Trat’s pristine waters, Oct 2. This year’s jellyfish population is larger than ever, but the natural phenomenon will only last until December.

Somnuk Hongsawisate, former Deputy Chief of the Laem Klad Subdistrict Administrative Organization, explained that every year, at the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cooler months, vibrant jellyfish gather in large numbers. After the recent rainfall subsided, and with the clear, calm seas, the jellyfish have started to appear in significant numbers.

Reporters visiting Ban Klong Son met with Sanya Khumpli, Assistant Head of Village 6, Ban Klong Kwang in Laem Klad, Muang District, Trat. Sanya took a local fishing boat out to the jellyfish area. After a 15-minute ride, they encountered a vast swarm of jellyfish swimming gracefully along the waves. Most were white or off-white, with others displaying hues of green, blue, brown, and white mixed. A drone captured stunning aerial views of the colorful jellyfish in the sunlight, creating a mesmerizing natural scene unique to the Trat Sea during this season.

Sanya mentioned that this jellyfish phenomenon occurs annually at the end of the rainy season. When the water is clear, the jellyfish are even more beautiful. The variety of colors is attributed to the natural characteristics of the ocean in different areas. This year’s population is more abundant than previous years, with millions of jellyfish appearing. The spectacle is expected to last for only 2-3 months, and tourists are encouraged to visit in the early morning, which is the best time to witness this remarkable natural event. (TNA)
