BANGKOK, Thailand – The Government Lottery Office (GLO) has introduced a new three-digit lottery system, with public sales set to begin on October 17th. During the initial phase, internal testing will be conducted under a sandbox system to evaluate the project’s effectiveness before its full rollout.

GLO spokesperson Thanavath Phonvichai announced that the internal testing began on October 2nd. Public ticket sales will continue for six months, with a limited daily sales period from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Each ticket is priced at 20 baht, with a cap of 2 million tickets per draw to ensure a controlled market entry.

The pilot project involves 400 out of 900 registered vendors from GLO’s 80-Baht Lottery Project. These vendors will receive support, such as rental fee coverage, to facilitate a smooth evaluation of the new lottery system. The three-digit lottery is designed to work alongside the existing six-digit digital lottery still available on the Pao Tang App, minimizing market disruption.

The new lottery offers four prize categories, with participants selecting numbers ranging from 000 to 999. Prizes will be determined based on the traditional six-digit lottery results drawn on the 1st and 16th of each month. Revenue from ticket sales will be allocated as follows: 60% for prizes, 23% for government revenue, and 17% for administrative expenses.

This initiative aims to address the issue of overpriced tickets and reduce revenue flow to the underground lottery market. Once fully operational, the GLO anticipates that sales could reach 200 million baht per draw. The first public draw is scheduled for April 16th of 2025, with ticket availability expected to increase based on demand. (NNT)
