BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Phumtham Wechayachai, expressed no concern regarding the lawsuit filed by Thirayuth Suwankesorn against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai Party, Oct 11. Thirayuth accused Thaksin of controlling the party and undermining Thailand’s democratic system. Phumtham emphasized that legal processes should be followed and that past cases against Pheu Thai have often been dismissed.

When asked if the lawsuit could lead to the dissolution of Pheu Thai, Phumtham confidently responded that he was “1000% not worried.” He stated that the legal system would handle the matter, and until the court accepts the case, there is no reason for concern.

On the matter of disputed territory on Koh Kood with Cambodia, Phumtham downplayed the issue, saying it has long been discussed without conclusion. He urged for clarity and factual information before making judgments, dismissing speculative narratives that only cause unnecessary anxiety.

Regarding the possibility of a change in the Prime Minister, following speculation from a meeting between Anutin Charnvirakul and Newin Chidchob with Thaksin, Phumtham firmly rejected the idea, stating that it would be “cruel” to consider replacing Prime Minister Paetongtarn after just one month in office. He reiterated that the government is working hard to address the country’s challenges and urged the public to avoid baseless speculation.

When asked whether Thaksin is controlling Pheu Thai, Phumtham laughed and remarked, “I don’t need to answer that. You already know.”

Phumtham concluded by emphasizing that Pheu Thai is confident in its legal standing and decision-making process, dismissing rumors and encouraging the media to focus on the facts instead of fueling drama. (TNA)
