BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkapan, along with Deputy Permanent Secretary Suphakrit, visited the Prannok Market area on Itsaraphap Road in Bangkok Noi District to oversee the reorganization of market stalls in accordance with Governor Chadchart’s policy, October 12. The focus is on regulating vendors in this designated zone, where 181 traders primarily sell fresh food, seafood, vegetables, and seasonal fruits. The wet and cluttered sidewalks pose sanitation risks, prompting the need for a revamp.
In a meeting on September 30, local authorities informed vendors about the necessity of reorganizing the market and upgrading the sidewalks. Once renovations are completed, all trading activities will adhere to the 2024 guidelines.
The sidewalk improvement project on Itsaraphap Road spans from Prachathipok Road to Suthawat Road, covering Thonburi, Bangkok Yai, and Bangkok Noi Districts. The project, which started on June 19, 2024, and is set to finish on January 14, 2025, will last 210 days.
In Bangkok Noi, the works impact three areas: Prannok Market, both left and right sides of Bangkok Noi Market. As part of the renovation, vendors at these locations must temporarily relocate. Street vendors outside the market are being moved inside Prannok Market, where some available stalls can accommodate them. Vendors renting space in front of buildings can continue their business but must not encroach on the sidewalk.
Deputy Governor Jakkapan emphasized that contractors must prioritize public safety during the renovations by installing warning signs and barriers to prevent accidents. The contractors confirmed that the project is on schedule and will be completed within the contracted timeframe.
