BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed that one Thai worker was killed and another injured in an incident on Friday morning at the Yir’on Agricultural Settlement, near the Israeli-Lebanese border.
Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and MFA Spokesperson, expressed the ministry’s deepest condolences over the loss and the injury of the Thai nationals. The information was reported by the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, which confirmed that the cause was due to unexploded ordnance left in the area. This finding contradicts initial reports suggesting an anti-tank missile attack.
The identity of the deceased worker has yet to be confirmed, as the embassy is awaiting the results of an autopsy before notifying the family. The injured Thai worker, who has been severely affected psychologically, has been transferred to a hospital in Safed in northern Israel for treatment. The embassy will continue to monitor his condition closely.
The Royal Thai Embassy reported that there are approximately 10 Thai workers residing in the Yir’on Agricultural Settlement. The embassy has coordinated with Israeli authorities to evacuate all Thai nationals from the area immediately as a precautionary measure.
Additionally, the embassy issued a new safety advisory, urging Thai workers in Israel who are still in military-restricted zones or high-risk areas and are unable to relocate to contact the embassy for assistance in coordinating their safe evacuation.
