Minister Jiraporn raised concerns about the need for stronger oversight and legal reforms in the direct selling industry, which has caused public harm in the past.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai has provided an update on the investigation into The Icon Group Co., Ltd., revealing that 504 victims have come forward with total damages exceeding 118 million baht. The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) is continuing its investigation and offering support to those affected.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is now involved in the case. Under DSI guidelines, cases involving more than 300 victims and damages over 100 million baht qualify for special case status, though the final decision rests with the department. DSI and related units are working together to ensure progress in the investigation.

Minister Jiraporn also raised concerns about the need for stronger oversight and legal reforms in the direct selling industry, which has caused public harm in the past. She points out the gaps in the current system, which only allows for reactive measures, such as the submission of financial reports by companies, without proactive investigation.

The minister called for long-term reforms to improve the effectiveness of business monitoring and to better protect consumers from future risks in the direct selling sector. These changes are seen as essential for preventing similar cases from arising in the future. (NNT)
