TRANG, 2 June 2015 -The Excise Department and the Thai Foundation for Responsible Drinking (TFRD) have stepped up measures to prevent alcohol sales to minors.
The Excise Office in Trang province revealed that various establishments have been reminded of the legal punishments and restrictions regarding alcohol sales.
An inspection will be carried out by the authorities to ensure that convenience stores and bar venues abide by the law. Legal action will be taken against those operating without an alcohol license.
The TFRD has been warning stores, particularly around schools, of the legal consequences of selling alcohol to minors. Under the 2008 Alcohol Control Act, it is forbidden to sell alcoholic beverages to people below the age of 20. Violators can face a maximum jail term of one year and/or receive a fine of less than 10,000 baht.
