Significant progress made on helping Rohingyas

The National Security Council (NSC) has revealed that Thailand has made significant progress in dealing with the stateless Rohinyas.

According to NSC Secretary General Anusit Kunakorn, the recent discovery and the arrest of a high profile military official, Lieutenant General Manas Kongpan, was the result of a collaborative effort of various related units determined to tackle the trafficking of Rohinyas which left no stone unturned.

 

BANGKOK, 2 June 2015 -The National Security Council (NSC) has revealed that Thailand has made significant progress in dealing with the stateless Rohinyas.

According to NSC Secretary General Anusit Kunakorn, the recent discovery and the arrest of a high profile military official, Lieutenant General Manas Kongpan, was the result of a collaborative effort of various related units determined to tackle the trafficking of Rohinyas which left no stone unturned.

The Secretary General said more discoveries will be unveiled as the government is determined to solve this problem once and for all. However, this issue will have to gradually be resolved as Thailand is not the only country facing it.

Mr. Anusit also responded to criticisms against Thailand that no nation should be shifting responsibility towards another. He further stated that there would likely be more issues when ASEAN Economic Community took shape, which the Thai government must be prepared to handle through different approaches
