Leaders of Pattaya’s 42 communities submitted statistics and demographic information on families in their areas as Thailand embarks on its biannual development survey.

Akin to a basic census, the National Committee for Rural Development collects statistics on the number of families in individual communities, how many school-age children they have, and the family’s economic status to plan community development and budgets.

Community leaders also submit geographic and environmental data about their neighborhoods, including unique features, such as canals; as well as health, sanitation, and crime.

Pattaya’s community leaders filed into a city hall conference room May 26 to submit their information.

The data ultimately will be used to track and assess rural and community development as well as grade its development relative to other regions.
