Chonburi political, health, education and cultural officials came together to rework how the province tackles its teen pregnancy problem.
Deputy Gov. Chamnanwit Taerat chaired the May 29 workshop organized by the Chonburi Social Development and Human Security Office. Participating were representatives from the province’s administration and public health department, education offices, child-protection commission, children and youth council, culture department and area hospitals.
Chamnanwit said the mission of the day-long seminar was to analyze the situation and make Chonburi’s plan to prevent unwanted teen pregnancies stronger. A key element would be the creation of youth leaders to spread knowledge on sexual health and self-protection.
Representatives from the Chonburi Public Health Office, Primary Education Service Area 1, Secondary Education Service Area 18, and Social Development and Human Security Office led the morning session’s panel discussion on preventing unwanted pregnancies.
Janjira Thaibandith, chief of the social development and welfare section, spoke on the current situation, statistics, causes, factors and problem-solving guidelines.
Participants split into groups in the afternoon to brainstorm a new strategy covering prevention and rehabilitation, reinforcement, and youth leaders. Eliminating enticements and influences from the media was a key top, along with the need to conduct a survey and better follow-up.
