NAKHON PATHOM, Thailand – A contractor’s negligence led to a dangerous accident on Phetkasem Road near Thung Phra Meru intersection, where a woman lost control of her car, causing it to flip multiple times after skidding on the wet road. The road was left in poor condition due to a pile of excavation dirt with no warning signs or lighting to alert drivers, despite the ongoing construction work.

The incident occurred late at night on October 18, when volunteers from the Suksananurak Foundation assisted a woman who had lost control of her van. The accident took place near a well-known shopping mall as she was driving toward Bangkok. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries, although the vehicle sustained significant damage.

Upon investigation, it was found that a large pile of dirt, about 30 meters long, had been left on the right side of the road near the foot of a bridge. The dirt pile, a result of drainage pipe installation, had spilled onto one of the traffic lanes, causing the road to become slippery. Additionally, there were no construction signs, traffic cones, or warning lights, making it difficult for drivers to spot the hazard, especially in the dark due to faulty street lighting.

The woman, though unharmed, was visibly shaken by the accident, which had occurred after a heavy downpour in the area. Several other drivers had also been forced to slow down and brake suddenly when they encountered the dirt pile. Volunteers from the Suksalanurak Foundation helped manage the traffic and set up emergency lights to warn other drivers of the danger.

It remains unclear which contractor or government agency is responsible for the unfinished work and the abandoned dirt pile. Local residents have expressed frustration and are calling for accountability, criticizing the lack of safety measures and the substandard work that put lives at risk. Since Phetkasem Road is a major highway connecting the southern region to Bangkok, they are demanding that the authorities quickly resolve the issue to prevent further accidents.
