BANGKOK, 3 June 2015- The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) has heard a charter amendment proposal from the National Reform Council (NRC) committee on energy reform.

The proposal was presented by committee chairman Manoon Siriwan, who proposed that the constitution clearly define the agency tasked with studying environmental impact and to define the extent to which the public is allowed to participate in the country’s energy production management. This clear definition of roles is meant to enhance management efficiency in the event of large-scale projects in the future.

Furthermore, Mr Manoon proposed that the Senate be reduced from 200 members to 150 and include a Senator from every province. He added that provincial Senators should not have to undergo a committee selection process, but rather be elected by the people in their respective provinces.
