BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall in parts of the lower northern region, central region, eastern region, and upper southern region of Thailand. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for possible hazards, including flash floods and sudden runoffs, particularly in low-lying areas and near foothills.
The 24-hour weather forecast indicates that a monsoon trough is moving across the lower central region, upper southern region, and eastern region. Meanwhile, easterly and southeasterly winds are bringing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand over the lower northern and northeastern regions. This weather pattern is causing isolated heavy rainfall in the lower northern, central, eastern, and upper southern regions, as well as in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces. The public is advised to take precautions due to the potential for accumulated rainfall and localized flooding.
In addition, moderate winds and waves are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, with wave heights reaching 1-2 meters, and up to 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm “Trami,” which has developed from a depression in the eastern Philippines, is forecasted to strengthen as it moves toward the upper South China Sea between October 23-24.
In Bangkok and its vicinity, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with occasional heavy downpours. Temperatures will range from a low of 25-26°C to a high of 33-34°C. (TNA)
