CHIANG RAI, ThailandIn the early hours of October 24, a group of over 20 teenagers on motorcycles gathered and engaged in violent and disruptive behavior in Chiang Rai’s Mueang District. The incidents included physical assaults, property damage, and the use of firecracker-like explosives, causing loud blasts and public disturbance.

The gangs—identified as “Chantra,” “No Way,” “Green Flag,” “Three Tigers,” and “Benz Mechanic”—are known for congregating and causing unrest in the area, often targeting other youths. They also tend to appear at public events and gatherings, disturbing residents and bystanders alike.

Following a report of recent incidents along Phahonyothin Road, from Ban Den Intersection in Nang Lae Subdistrict to the eastern bypass near Meng Rai Maharaj School, Chiang Rai police, led by Provincial Commander Maj. Gen. Manop Senakul, began intensive patrols. Officers arrested the group’s ringleader, an 18-year-old named Wave, along with two associates. At Wave’s residence, police found makeshift firearms, brass knuckles, and knives.



Further investigation, including surveillance footage, led to the identification of additional members, including a 16-year-old named Opal, suspected of throwing firecrackers. The total number of individuals detained stands at 18, with several reportedly showing little remorse.

Police have called the parents of these youths to participate in corrective discussions. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb such gang activities to ensure community safety in Chiang Rai.
