Thai Foreign Minister attends the 4th BRICS Plus Summit at Kazan Expo in Russia

The Foreign Minister gave a statement highlighting the importance of strengthening multilateralism to be more balanced and beneficial to developing countries.

KAZAN – H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, as representative of the Prime Minister, attended the Leaders’ Meeting of the BRICS Member Countries in the Outreach/ BRICS Plus Format or the 4th BRICS Plus Summit at Kazan Expo in Kazan, Russia on 24 October.

The Foreign Minister gave a statement highlighting the importance of strengthening multilateralism to be more balanced and beneficial to developing countries. He also reiterated Thailand’s determination to elevate the engagement with BRICS and the role of Thailand as the link between BRICS and other international frameworks, such as ASEAN, APEC, BIMSTEC, and ACD.

On this occasion, the Foreign Minister proposed revisiting the current state of the international financial architecture to attain a balanced architecture which gives more account to developing countries. He also expressed hope for BRICS members to participate in high-level discussions on the financial architecture, to be organized by Thailand next year as Chair of the ACD. (MFA)
