PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Monday, May 25, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Another good turnout and our bus was just about full as we headed North up number 7 to the ever-popular Khao Kheow.  After a 40 minute drive we checked in using our PSC green fee vouchers (750 baht) and were allocated the B & C nines and after a brief wait for a couple of groups to hit off our first group got away 15 minutes earlier than our 10.54am tee time.  It was fine & hot and the course was in great shape and although we had a slow group ahead of us, which caused a fair bit of delay, we managed to complete our round in just under four hours.

Tony Cook.

Finally hitting his straps it was Aussie Tony Cook who took out first spot with a fine 38 points and the next three places were all won by ladies which was great to see.  With two on 34 points a count back was required to determine second & third and the result of that was Rita Zoebeli (19 point back nine) finishing second from Thientong Charoenrung (15 point back nine) in third spot.

In one of the closest count backs ever we saw 2 golfers with 33 points and after close scrutiny Lorraine Percy (18 point back nine, 11 points on the last 6 holes, 6 points on the last 3 holes & 3 points on the last hole) was awarded fourth place from an unlucky Neil Skilton (18 point back nine, 11 points on the last 6 holes, 6 points on the last 3 holes & 0 points on the last hole) who just missed out.

1st Tony Cook (29) 38pts

2nd Rita Zoebeli (24) 34pts

3rd Thientong Charoenrung (17) 34pts

4th Lorraine Percy (35) 33pts

Near Pins: B8 – Frank Donnelly

Long Putts: C9 – Tony Cook

Wednesday, May 27, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

We had another small field but all good friends and we headed north again to tackle the challenging Mountain Shadow layout.  The golf course was practically deserted which was a shame as this is a very good golf course in good condition and extremely well priced.  In fact it has been the same price all year round, which is a credit to them.

Peter Blackburn.Peter Blackburn.

Teeing off about ten minutes ahead of schedule at 9.50am we were slowed down a bit once more by some slow golfers directly in front of us but still managed to maintain a steady pace and we finished the 18 holes in a little under four hours.

Your writer, Peter Blackburn, finally managed to adapt to his new eyesight after Super Sight Surgery a couple of weeks ago and won the day with 39 points.  With a couple of golfers on 35 points a count back was required which resulted in the “in form” Thientong Charoenrung (21 point back nine) finishing second from the consistent Oddur Olafsson (18 point back nine) in third spot.

1st Peter Blackburn (14) 39pts

2nd Thientong Charoenrung (17) 35pts

3rd Oddur Olafsson (13) 35pts

Friday, May 29, Phoenix (Mountain & Ocean) – Stableford

Once again our numbers were down but it is low season after all and the faithful headed south for the short trip to Phoenix.  Your writer sat this one out but received a report from the actual participants and they teed off a little earlier than the booked 11.00am tee time.

The weather was fine & hot with the course in good condition although reportedly some of the greens were still a bit “ordinary”.  A fairly quick round was enjoyed by all with everyone completing the 18 holes in under four hours.

Oddur Olafsson.

It was his last game before heading off back to Iceland and Oddur Olafsson finished in style and won the day with a fine 38 points, 2 points ahead of Neil Skilton in second place.  There were 2 golfers on 35 points so a count back was necessary which resulted in Mogens Melander (21 point back nine) taking his first ever spot on the podium in finishing third, with Marcus Earp (18 point back nine) just missing out.

1st Oddur Olafsson (13) 38pts

2nd Neil Skilton (7) 36pts

3rd Mogens Melander (36) 35pts
