BANGKOK, Thailand – The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has joined forces with Advanced Info Service (AIS) to introduce the “1185 Report Scam” service, allowing the public to report suspicious phone numbers immediately after receiving a call.
By dialing *1185# within five minutes of receiving a suspicious call, the system automatically retrieves the last received number, eliminating the need to remember the incoming number.
If the reported number shows unusual patterns within 48 hours, AIS forwards the data to the CIB for further investigation and blocking. This system enables law enforcement to trace and prosecute offenders swiftly, covering all types of phone numbers, including landlines, mobile, international, and VoIP numbers.
This service aims to improve the tracking, investigation, and blocking of fraudulent callers, with the CIB targeting a 30-40% reduction in cybercrime cases within six months.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridech, Commissioner of the CIB, reiterated that his agency has intensified efforts to dismantle scam networks by targeting communication channels such as unauthorized SIM cards, mule accounts, and social media platforms.
Pratthana Leelapanang, AIS Chief Consumer Business Officer, added that AIS further demonstrated its commitment to customer safety through continued collaboration with law enforcement and the launch of the secure 5G SIM with IMSI encryption. The company is also working to improve digital literacy with programs like “Aunjai Cyber” to educate the public on cyber threats and fraud prevention.
Over the past year, cybercrimes reached 300,000 cases, with call center scams accounting for 20,000 incidents, resulting in losses of up to 4 billion baht. (NNT)
