BANGKOK, Thailand – The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center (DPM) issued a warning to residents of Southern Thailand to prepare for heavy rainfall expected from November 2 to 5. The center has urged all units to monitor the situation closely, particularly in 10 provinces at risk of landslides. Meanwhile, the Chao Phraya Dam has reduced water discharge to 1,300 cubic meters per second due to decreased rainfall.

Jirayuth Huangsap, an advisor to the Prime Minister and spokesperson for the DPM, announced that the DPM is taking proactive measures to address the anticipated heavy rain. Key actions include continuous weather monitoring, maintaining riverbanks, removing obstacles in water flow, and preparing for potential flooding by ensuring that personnel and equipment are ready to assist. Residents in vulnerable areas are advised to stay informed and prepare for possible evacuations.

The DPM has identified at-risk areas in provinces such as Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla, urging residents to remain vigilant. Additionally, they will monitor medium and small reservoirs that are over 80% full, as well as river levels, to mitigate flooding risks.
