BANGKOK, Thailand – Wat Arun Ratchawararam, or the Temple of Dawn, will host a Loy Krathong festival on November 15, featuring a multilingual performance of the festival’s theme song in Thai, English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish. The multilingual rendition enhances international visitors’ connection to the festival’s meaning, traditionally involving floating decorated baskets on the water to symbolize renewal and letting go of past misfortunes.

The Culture Ministry, collaborating with various partners, has launched a global campaign to share Loy Krathong’s cultural significance, using social media as a key platform. Attendees are encouraged to use eco-friendly materials for krathongs to protect waterways, and authorities have advised against fireworks and sky lanterns for a safer celebration.

Festivities will also unfold across five cities known for their distinct Loy Krathong customs, coordinated by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Samut Sakhon, and Roi Et will offer unique celebrations that showcase local traditions while preserving the essence of Loy Krathong.

The main festival sites in Bangkok will include Rama VIII Bridge and Khlong Ong Ang, popular gathering points for locals and tourists. Bangkok City Hall will also host a digital Loy Krathong event alongside private and public partners, and proceeds from food vendors will support restoration projects at Wat Suthat. Santiphap Park in Ratchathewi district is being considered as an additional venue, although organizers are reviewing space and water quality needs. (NNT)
