LIMA, Peru – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held a meeting with Mr. Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, during the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, November 14. The discussion centered on enhancing digital collaboration, promoting responsible social media use, and leveraging creative content to boost Thai tourism.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn acknowledged TikTok’s influence in Thailand, which boasts nearly 50 million users, and expressed appreciation for the platform’s role in supporting Thai micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through e-commerce and digital content creation.
Mr. Shou praised the Thai government’s focus on digital economy policies as a key driver of growth. Both leaders emphasized the importance of equipping youth and entrepreneurs with digital skills. The Prime Minister invited TikTok to collaborate with the Thai government to promote local businesses, showcase Thai products on the platform, and develop creative tourism content to highlight Thailand on the global stage.
The two leaders also agreed on the need for safe and responsible social media usage across all age groups. PM Paetongtarn stressed the importance of fostering a culture of responsible technology use and empowering content creators to produce socially responsible and innovative content.
The meeting reinforced TikTok’s commitment to supporting Thailand’s digital economy and creative industries while aligning with government priorities to drive sustainable growth and global visibility. (PRD)
