Seminar on Toilet Standard held to boost tourist satisfaction in 12 Can’t Miss Cities

TRAT, June 2015 – The Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports held a seminar on toilet hygiene in tourist attractions in “12 Can’t Miss Cities”, hoping to upgrade sanitary standard at tourist spots.

A senior specialist in tourism development Wanna Cholpraves said that public toilet is a basic facility for travelers and also a factor to judge their satisfaction. However, she continued some of the toilets located along travel routes and at tourism locations are below international standard in terms of quality, hygiene and safety.

The issue has prompted the Tourism Department to hold the seminar on toilet management for all relevant sectors in tourism in the twelve major tourist cities. It was taken part by more than 100 representatives from tour businesses, having senior experts from the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health as speakers to provide knowledge on hygienic practices and sanitation procedures.

There are over 90,000 public toilets nationwide that have passed the international hygienic standard, but the Department of Tourism aims higher. It has joined hands with local health authorities to assess toilet standards. Those approved to be clean and convenient will get “Happy Tourist Toilet” sticker to guarantee satisfaction of toilet users.

“Toilet Use Guideline” stickers will be given to accommodation providers and tourist attraction operators to help tourists understand and use public toilets in a proper Thai manner.
