PHUKET, Thailand – A 48-year-old man from Phang Nga was arrested after storming Thachatchai Police Station, attacking an investigator with a knife, and fleeing the scene. The suspect faces charges of attempted murder of an officer.
The incident occurred on November 17 when the suspect, identified as Mr. Chuai, entered the station in frenzy, kicking down doors and injuring Lt. Col. Akkarapol Sivilaipong, who was on duty in the report room. The officer sustained cuts above his left eyebrow and on his left arm but is now in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The suspect fled to another province but was apprehended after crashing his vehicle at a roundabout. Police arrested him at a hospital bed in Phang Nga, where he is recovering under custody. The motive behind the attack is believed to be stress related to a prior arrest.
Police are intensifying security measures at all stations to prevent similar incidents in the future. (TNA)
