BANGKOK, 16 June 2015 – The government is seeking public cooperation in conserving water during the current period, as rainfall is still scarce and the amount of water held in reservoirs continues to dwindle.
Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the deputy government spokesman, revealed on Monday that all provincial governors have been asked to encourage the public to conserve water, for their own benefit. He indicated that water conservation was currently needed in order to prevent disruptions to daily activities and to preserve the available water reserve in reservoirs.
Farmers have been asked to delay the planting of water-intensive crops until normal levels of rainfall return. According to Maj. Gen. Sansern, most farmers have cooperated and switched to crops that demanded less water. However, farmers who failed to follow the recommendation of officials have begun to see damage to their crops as a result of the lack of water.
