BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has emphasized the nation’s commitment to aligning labor standards with international benchmarks.
The comment was made at the opening ceremony of The 6th UNI Asia & Pacific Regional Conference on November 20th by Siraphop Duangsodsri, Vice Minister for Labour.
The conference brings together over 600 trade union leaders from 40 countries across the region. The three-day event, themed “Rising Together to Transform,” aims to address the evolving challenges faced by workers in the digital age and to strengthen solidarity among unions.
Siraphop highlighted initiatives focused on upskilling, reskilling, and enhancing workforce welfare to meet the demands of the digital economy. He stated that the draft Independent Labour Law under development aims to make Thailand a country with labor standards aligned with international labor standards, creating decent work for all.
The conference serves as a platform for union leaders to exchange insights and strategies on enhancing workers’ rights, promoting fair labor practices, and fostering inclusive growth. Discussions are set to cover a range of topics, including digital transformation, sustainable development, and the empowerment of marginalized worker groups.
The event also features cultural performances, including contemporary Thai dance, symbolizing the rich heritage and unity of the host nation. The conference will conclude on November 22, with the adoption of resolutions aimed at advancing the labor movement’s objectives in the Asia-Pacific region. (NNT)
