The Provincial Waterworks Authority is replacing water mains under the entirety of North Road, work that will affect traffic until at least the end of August.

VSK PPD Co. of Bangkok began work June 15, about two weeks after the planned beginning of the project, which will see piping placed under each side of North Road from Sukhumvit Road to the Dolphin Roundabout. Before the delayed start, completion had been set for Aug. 31.

Project manager Aniruth Charonesuk said the 9-million-baht pipe replacement was needed due to continual line breaks in the old pipes underneath North Road.

Work will begin with demolition of the road surface and sidewalks and continue with trench digging and placement of the HDPE piping. The road will be resurfaced and leveled as each segment of pipe is complete.

Traffic will be affected along the entire route, with periodic lane closures on both sides of the street with barriers placed to protect workers.

Other than drivers, the public will not feel the effects of the project until the very end, when the new lines are tested and existing neighborhood-connector pipes are switched. Water will be turned off for small stretches of time, mostly at night.
