BANGKOK, 18 June 2015 – Construction of transport infrastructure at the Special Economic Zone in the border town of Mae Sot, Tak Province, has progressed by 50% and should be completed by 2018 as planned.

The progress was reported to the Infrastructure and Customs House Sub-committee for the Special Economic Zone chaired by Transport Minister Prajin Juntong yesterday.

Permanent Secretary for Transport Soythip Traisuthi said the first and second sections of the Trat-Mae Sot highway have been completed. The third section is under construction while the last section is pending budget allocation of 1,100 million baht.

The construction of a bridge across Moei River worth 3,900 million baht which is a joint project between Thailand and Myanmar, has been allocated with the necessary budget. The project is expected to be completed in 2018. Meanwhile, the budget for the construction of Mae Sot Airport and passenger terminals has also been approved.
