BUENG KAN, 18 June 2015 – Over 100 community leaders and volunteers have participated in forest protection training held by Bueng Kan Natural Resources and Environment Office.

The objective of the program is to enhance the abilities of local forest conservation groups. Participants were educated on several aspects of forest conservation, including forestry laws, wildfire prevention and community forest management.

Over the past decades, the northeastern province of Bueng Kan has experienced heavy forest encroachment as a result of the growing rubber industry. The remaining forests, which represent no more than 14 percent of the province’s entire area, can only be found in Phu Langa National Park.

The organizers expected participants to apply the knowledge acquired through the training to the protection of natural resources and environment in their neighborhoods.
