BANGKOK, 21 June 2015 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested all Thai embassies and consulates to assure foreign countries of Thailand’s tight MERS-CoV prevention measures.

Thai embassies and consulates were urged to use their available channels to explain the Ministry of Public Health’s strict disease-control and prevention, such as the execution of surveillance measures at airports and hospitals, installation of body temperature measurement equipment at all airports, circulation of anti-MERS-CoV guidelines among all airlines operating in risk-prone countries, and distribution of face masks.

The move is expected to convince foreign visitors of the country’s efforts to deal with the situation. The country has so far reported one confirmed case of MERS-CoV. Those in close contact with the patient are immediately quarantined for close monitoring in line with international standards. World Health Organisation also hailed the country for its swift response to the infection.
