BANGKOK, Thailand – Thousands of devotees continue to arrive at Sanam Luang in Bangkok to pay their respects to the Sacred Buddha Relic, brought from the People’s Republic of China and temporarily enshrined in Thailand. The event, held to honor His Majesty the King’s 72nd birthday and to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, has drawn large crowds since its opening. Visitors are also attending a royal exhibition at the site, which features daily activities in commemoration of the King’s birthday anniversary.
To ensure a smooth visit, authorities have issued guidelines for attendees. Visitors must present valid identification at the entrance and are prohibited from bringing food, beverages, pets, or personal ceremonial offerings. Complimentary artificial lotus flowers and prayer booklets are provided for worship. Attendees are also required to dress modestly, avoiding attire such as shorts, strapless tops, and sheer clothing.
According to the advisor to the Prime Minister, Jirayu Huangsap, daily religious ceremonies are conducted at the site, with morning prayers from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and evening sessions at 4:00 p.m. Special events include sermons on Buddhist holy days and a New Year’s Eve prayer ceremony on December 31, followed by almsgiving on January 1. The sacred relic will remain open for veneration until February 14, 2025, with visiting hours from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (NNT)
