The Provincial Electrical Authority has brought new power poles and lines to a three kilometer stretch between Mapthatho intersection with Soi Nernplabwan, to Boonsamphan Temple School on Soi Khao Talo as part of its continuing effort to upgrade the city’s power system.

PEA Assistant Director Prasong Phuetudompol oversaw the installation of 20 electric posts and 300 meters of wire from Wat Saothongtong to the temple June 14. In all, 100 new poles were installed.

The utility company has begun replacing power poles throughout South Pattaya, taking out 12-meter-tall poles and replacing them with 22-meter-tall towers.

PEA operations chief Sorat Kositkul said the pole replacement is the first step toward an upgrade of the Pattaya power distribution station. Currently, the station has an output capacity of 22,000 volts. Once completed by December, the upgrade will take the station to a limit of 115,000 volts, an increase of 422 percent.

At some point, PEA will need to turn off the power to all of the South Pattaya area for a day to complete the switch over. However, the date has not been set.

Sorat said the public would be advised well in advance of the eventual power disruption.
