BANGKOK, 24 June 2015 – A committee under the National Reform Council, which is in charge of the reform of public health has accepted a set of proposals on strategies for the development of the country’s herbal medicine therapies.
On Tuesday, the Chairwoman of the NRC’s public health reform committee Pornpan Punyaratabandhu, met with the President of the Pharmacy Council of Thailand Kitti Pitaknitinan who also represents the Abhaiphubet Chaopraya Hospital Foundation.
The two discussed the role of pharmacists in the development of Thai herbal medicines and the significant position of these specialists in helping produce high quality, effective and safe medicines while linking the practice of modern medicine with that of traditional medicine.
Mr. Kitti stated that he has come up with five strategies to help ensure the success of Thai herbal medicine, which involve the national herbal medicine policy, the pharmaceutical industry and its manufacturing of herbal products, the development of related knowledge, the safe use of herbal medicine and the development of well qualified personnel.
Ms. Pornpan noted that all information presented to her is important and will be utilized in the reform of the country’s public health system.
