BANGKOK, 24 June 2015 – Yala Hospital has reportedly been equipped with facilities to prevent any potential outbreak of Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) when Hajj pilgrims return from Saudi Arabia.

Yala Hospital Director Peerapong Paowanasutipaisit said thousands of Thai Muslims are expected to travel to Middle Eastern nations, where MERS originated, to attend the annual Hajj in August.

He added that they have been educated about the disease and how to protect themselves. Muslim pilgrims have also been registered with the hospital and have had health check ups prior to the pilgrimage.

They are encouraged to bring those displaying flu-like symptoms after returning from the religious journey in Saudi Arabia to the doctor immediately.
