NAKHON PHANOM, Thailand – The government has invited the public to explore the scenic “Naga Withi” route, a 43-kilometer journey connecting Nakhon Phanom and Mukdahan provinces. The route offers travelers an opportunity to experience a blend of spiritual sites, picturesque landscapes, and the distinctive cultural charm of the Northeast along the Mekong River. Prime Minister’s Office Deputy Spokesperson Sasikarn Watthanachan said the route, developed by the Department of Rural Roads (DRR), is expected to boost tourism while showcasing the rich traditions and natural beauty of the region.
The journey begins in Nakhon Phanom, home to the revered Phra That Phanom, a stupa that attracts visitors seeking blessings and prosperity. Travelers can follow Rural Road No. 3015, which provides spectacular views of the Nam Kam-That Phanom Bridge, a popular spot for photography. The route continues to Mukdahan’s Wan Yai district, featuring attractions such as Kaeng Kabao, known for its serene riverside scenery and unique rock formations along the Mekong River. Another key destination is the Phaya Sri Puchong Mukdanakaraj, a striking white Naga statue symbolizing good fortune and success.
The government has outlined plans to further develop the route from 2024 to 2027, ensuring greater safety and convenience for travelers. Planned upgrades include road improvements and additional infrastructure to support tourism and enhance accessibility to the region’s attractions.
