Tuesday, June 16, Green Valley – 2M Stableford

The P.F.G.S. was formed on June 2, 2015 and was accepted as a venue with I.P.G.C. on June 8.  Our first official competition took place at Rayong Green Valley on Tuesday June 16 and to make it that bit special we ran our annual Paul Semple Trophy game and fielded 28 players in 14 teams.

Paul Semple is a great friend to all of us and hails from ‘Bonnie Scotland’.  As a matter of interest, Paul will be playing for his Professional Seniors Card this coming January and is being sponsored by Callaway Golf.  We all wish him all the best in his endeavor.

By the looks of the skies on Tuesday the weather was against us, however we just had some small showers and managed to complete the whole 18 holes without stoppages.  We were joined on the day by our good friend Joe McArdle and he fielded 12 players from The Tara Court Golf Group, not sure we did the right thing though as they took 1st, 2nd & 3rd places.  The P.F.G.S. managed to save some face with a 4th place.

It was a 2-man aggregate stableford team competition which brought out some quite amazing results; Dan Hobbs for instance, with a 27 handicap, had one of his best rounds of golf to score an incredible 44 points!

The winning team was Joe McArdle (35 points) & Ted Morris (39), giving them a combined total of 74, which had to go to a count-back and their back-nine 40 points proved enough to relegate Pat Carty & John Fenwick (38 point back-nine) into second place.  Not many knew that Ted had only arrived in Thailand from the Philippines in the early hours of that morning, so hats off to him.

Taking third place were Joe Peters (33 points) & Ger Lodge (38 points) with a total of 71 points and flying the flag for P.F.G.S. in fourth place were Brendan Roddy (34 points) & Paul St. Pierre (36 points) with a total of 70 points.

Near pin winners were Walter Panichi (Hole 8) & William Bishop (Hole 16).

The presentation and celebration BBQ party was held at The Irish Wolfhound and was kindly sponsored by Bo Singleton.

Thursday, June 18, Plutaluang – Stableford

We played the North & West courses at Plutaluang on Thursday and fielded 10 players.  Again the weather looked daunting to say the least but once more we managed to complete the full 18 holes without interruptions.

Well, what a day we had at a most challenging course; our low handicap players Paul Semple & Paul Pavloff loving the challenges that the course gave them but for others it was a day of highs and lows, with Paul St. Pierre losing 9 balls and incurring more penalties than Vinnie Jones to come in with a score of just 19 points.

Paul Pavloff topped the podium on the day with 38 points while Brendan Roddy pipped Paul Semple for second place on count back, both with 34 points each.  Interestedly we had 3 players finishing with 33 points, Craig Hitchens, Jimmy Johnson & Joe De Pasquale, so only a few points separating the top 6 players.
