PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia – The leaders of Thailand and Malaysia have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, regional connectivity, and peace, December 16. Both leaders also extended an official invitation for the Malaysian Prime Minister to visit Thailand.
At 11:00 AM local time in Putrajaya, following the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU), Thai Prime Minister Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a joint press conference. Prime Minister Anwar expressed gratitude for the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Ms. Paetongtarn emphasized Thailand’s dedication to maintaining dynamic relations for peace and mutual prosperity and confirmed Thailand’s support for Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. Both leaders agreed to promote collaboration in trade, investment, cross-border connectivity, digital economy, tourism, and halal food industries. Additionally, they set a goal to reach a $30 billion trade target by 2027.
The two leaders also discussed ongoing border issues, including the flooding crisis, and instructed relevant authorities to find sustainable long-term solutions. Both parties expressed satisfaction with progress on border infrastructure projects and agreed to continue efforts to enhance road and rail connectivity, facilitating cross-border trade and greater people-to-people interaction.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn thanked Prime Minister Anwar for the continued friendship and expressed strong confidence in the potential for future cooperation. She also invited Prime Minister Anwar for an official visit to Thailand in the near future. (TNA)
