BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her delight after being named “Politician of the Year” for 2024 in a survey conducted by North Bangkok Poll, North Bangkok University. Despite feeling pressured, she vowed to work to her fullest capacity and avoid unnecessary drama, emphasizing that all Cabinet members are working hard to develop the country together.

Speaking after her visit to Maha Sarakham Province on December 20, Ms. Paetongtarn addressed the survey results, which revealed that 15.14% of respondents selected her as the “Politician of the Year.” She said, “I’m very happy. Sometimes, when I read comments on social media, they can be mixed, with both praise and criticism. So seeing this poll result is encouraging and motivating.”

She added, “I’ve been Prime Minister for over 90 days now and am doing my best with this opportunity to serve the people.”

The top three politicians in the poll were Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Suriya Juangroongruangkit, all members of the Pheu Thai Party. When asked if this reflects the government’s performance, Ms. Paetongtarn said, “Yes, absolutely. These individuals have worked very hard. If I have tasks that need delegation, I am confident they can handle them effectively. Every Cabinet member is working tirelessly. Collaboration is essential because there are so many provinces and regions to address. If we can distribute responsibilities effectively, the country will develop more comprehensively.”

When asked about receiving multiple awards within just three months of her term, the Prime Minister admitted, “It’s quite a pressure, but I’m doing my best with a heart focused on bringing benefits to the people. That’s all that matters. I also try to avoid creating any unnecessary drama or conflicts. Let’s keep things positive as the New Year approaches.” (TNA)
