Prime Minister Paethongtarn visits Isan, receives heartfelt thanks from residents for efforts in water management and flood-drought solutions.

MAHA SARAKHAM, Thailand – Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra visited the Huay Nam Khem Dam (D5) in Kosum Phisai District, Maha Sarakham, to oversee the water management efforts aimed at addressing both flooding and drought in the Chi River Basin on December 20. The Prime Minister was greeted by enthusiastic residents, many of whom cheered and chanted “Prime Minister, keep fighting!” while embracing her and posing for photos.

The Prime Minister was briefed on ongoing projects aimed at improving water management, such as the Chi-Mun River Basin water management project and the embankment improvements to prevent erosion. These projects are expected to be completed by 2026. She emphasized the importance of accelerating progress and promised to follow up on the projects personally.


Later, the Prime Minister visited a rice field to witness firsthand the benefits of water management and crop cultivation. She personally sowed rice seeds in a field, demonstrating her hands-on approach to solving local agricultural issues.

During her visit, she conversed warmly with locals, speaking in Isan dialect, expressing her gratitude for their warm welcome and support. She also discussed the government’s assistance programs for farmers, including subsidies and economic stimulus measures.

As the visit drew to a close, the Prime Minister wished everyone a happy and healthy New Year, emphasizing the importance of good health as a foundation for prosperity.
